Macurdy’s bill, the Property Tax Relief Act, is a comprehensive reform proposal for the State Health Benefits Plan (municipal workers) and the State Educators Health Benefits Plan (public school employees). The legislation contains three parts that will collectively work to stabilize costs while protecting high-quality healthcare for covered employees. “Going door-to-door in my district over the past year, the number one issue I hear from residents is property taxes,” Assemblyman Macurdy said. “We need solutions to the root causes driving increased property taxes, not band aids..."

“Transportation is a basic function of government. It has implications for all of our lives, from getting home to see your kids after work to being an economic engine of our state and the larger region, Macurdy said. “I hope that this forum highlights the importance of investing in transit networks across New Jersey. We must ensure that we are setting a high standard across all modes of transportation to deliver efficient systems and transparent information to riders,” he said.

Macurdy now plans to introduce three bills, a legislative package he calls “common sense” and necessary as the amount of AI-generated content available via social media continues to grow. “There is just a real concern, and I think it will only grow as a concern when people are looking at content online about whether it is real or whether it is generated by artificial intelligence,” Macurdy said. “I think that the ability to tell reality versus what is fake is really important and I think we need some guardrails around that, because it’s only going to proliferate.”

These resources will allow the Library to modernize its facilities and continue carrying out its mission."

“I believe in government service,” [Macurdy] said. “And, frankly, I was tired of being disappointed in elected officials. I have young kids — 4 and 2, and another on the way — and I want leaders at every level of government who think about improving lives now and making long-term investments to protect future generations.

There is also legislation pending, pushed by a Democratic newcomer in the State Assembly, Andrew Macurdy, to shift the state toward a multiyear approach to budget planning. “Businesses do this,” Mr. Macurdy said. “Other states do this. The idea is just to forecast down the line. What effect are the decisions you’re making today going to have in the future?”

Macurdy, calling the bills “common-sense provisions,” said childcare presents an expensive, unavoidable cost to New Jerseyans, and argued his bills would help expand the state’s capacity and lessen costs. "Making more high-quality, affordable childcare available in our State will improve...
